The generally accepted tale is that things happened in
an order:
1. Missing Persons break up whilst on tour prior to
the release of 'Color In Your Life' in July.
2. Andy contacts Terry Bozzio and Patrick O'Hearn
from Missing Persons about joining his band.
3. Warren starts contacting Duran. Missing Persons
were definitely still together on the 28th of June,
and on the 29th/30th, depending on when the
article was written, it was still expected that they
would be performing both that night and the 1st
of July. [47]
August 6 till 10
Air Studios, London [48]
Daniel Abraham: "'We Need You' was written and
recorded by Taylor/Rhodes/Le Bon late one night while
at Air Studios – it is fair to assume, before [Andy]
Taylor's flying visit." [49]
Daniel Abraham: "There were definitely things that
were done without him [Nile]. (B-side) 'We Need You'
was done before he came over, and I believe we just
used that the way it was, so he may not remember
that because he wasn't even on board by then." [50]
August 11 till 18
Abbey Road Studios, London [51] [52]
The band went there to get a special drum sound.
August 12
The band went to see Prince and the Revolution during
the Parade Tour at Wembley in London. [53]
August 13
Coming from New York, Nile Rodgers arrived in
London. [54] [55]
Daniel Abraham: "Nile at the time was on the Grace
Jones album ('Inside Story'), and that project was

delayed. I think he had been scheduled to come
earlier, but got delayed. So we carried on with the
demos." [56]
The song 'Notorious' has been written very late, when
Nile has arrived. But then again, it has also been
finished first, mixed in London prior to the album. Nick:
"'Notorious' was actually the last thing we wrote. It was
just the obvious single I think." [57]
John: "The title 'Notorious' existed before the song. We
wanted to call the album that because it just seemed
the right title. But Simon was reluctant to write a
song..." [58]
Mid of August
Meetings with Andy where he leaves the band and his
session role is defined. This can't have happened prior
to the 13th of August as Simon didn't know if he was
even in the UK on the 12th, or after the 22nd as Andy
was playing the Mountain Aire Festival in California on
the 23rd and the fans knew that he'd definitely left.
[59] [60]
August 19 and 22
Air Studios, London
They went back and forth between Abbey Road and Air
Studios in the next few weeks. [61]
August 23
Nick and Julie Anne become parents - Tatjana Lee
Orchid Rhodes is born.
August 25
Photo session with John Swannell (photos that were
used in the calendar, DD magazine, first merchandise
batch, early press shots) at Chalk Farm Studios in
London. [62]
John Swannell did also the photo shooting (with the
band and model Christy Turlington) for the album cover
in England in the countryside. The artworks for the
album and the singles were designed by Frank Olinsky
