SO MISLED (DEMO INSTRUMENTAL) 4:53
[synths, bass & drums, but no guitar & no vocals]
August at Abbey Road Studios in London. Called
'Instrumental #2' - this could very well be an early
demo for 'So Misled'; drum and bass pattern sound
like an early version of what Steve Ferrone would
eventually do. To be found on the 'Notorious The
Demos' bootleg on Voodoo Records. Nick: "It was
written one night in Abbey Road studios in London.
The reason we went there is to get the drum sound
that had never been recorded before. There's a
room there, Studio One, where they record all the
orchestras".
AMERICAN SCIENCE (DEMO) 4:39
[synths, bass, drums, vocals & Nile Rodgers on guitar]
Guessing the demo is from August/September at Air
Studios in London, but the song was already written in
May/June at Davout Studios in Paris and developed at
West Side Studios in London. Demo supplied from
several different sources. Nick: "This was written in
Paris and this was when things started falling into place
for us".
NOTORIOUS (DEMO) 4:12
[synths, bass, drums, vocals & Nile Rodgers on guitar]
August/September at Air Studios in London.
Demo supplied from several different sources.
A MATTER OF FEELING (MONITOR MIX) 5:56
[synths, bass, drums, vocals & Andy Taylor on guitar]
September 18th/19th at Air Studios in London.
Andy's guitar from this recording can definitely be
heard on the final Album Version. To be found on
'Tape #65' (from Andy's Demo Archive).

HOLD ME (MONITOR MIX) 4:30
[synths, bass, drums, vocals & Andy Taylor on guitar]
September 18th/19th at Air Studios in London.
For the album, Warren adapted Andy's guitar and is
playing on the final version, but possibly some bits
and pieces from Andy are still to be heard. To be
found on 'Tape #65' (from Andy's Demo Archive).
VERTIGO (MONITOR MIX INSTRUMENTAL) 5:16
[synths, bass, drums & Andy Taylor on guitar, but no vocals]
September 18th/19th at Air Studios in London.
Only a very little part of this recording can be heard on
the Album Version. But Andy's full guitar riff is found on
both the Mantronix and B-Boy mixes. To be found on
'Tape #65' (from Andy's Demo Archive).
AMERICAN SCIENCE (MONITOR MIX)
[not leaked - guessing with synths, bass, drums & vocals,
but for sure is Andy Taylor on guitar]
September 18th/19th at Air Studios in London.
It is confirmed that Andy can be heard on the first
guitar solo of 'American Science', hence the recordings
must also have taken place on these two days in
September. Warren: "On 'American Science' I did the
e-bow solo. Andy definitely played the other solo".
PROPOSITION (MONITOR MIX)
[not leaked - guessing with synths, bass, drums & vocals,
but for sure is Andy Taylor on guitar]
September 18th/19th at Air Studios in London.
Andy contributed to the shaping up of the song, but Nile
replaced his parts with very similar sounding guitar by
Warren in late October. If there are any bits of Andy's
playing left to be found on the album, they must be
very low in the mix. Anyway, Andy's full guitar riff is to
be heard on the commissioned, but unreleased 12" Mix
done by Mark S. Berry.
